This Privacy Notice describes the policies and practices of the Emerging Markets Investors Alliance (“EMIA” or “we” or “us”) with respect to the collection, retention, use, and disclosure of personal information about individuals who use EMIA’s website,  https://www.emia.org/ (the “Site”). By using the Site, you are deemed to have read, understood, and accepted the terms of this Privacy Notice as they relate to your personal information. We therefore encourage you to carefully review this Privacy Notice prior to providing us with your personal information. As described further below, we may update the Privacy Notice on occasion and we therefore encourage you to periodically check for any updates to ensure that you understand the current Privacy Notice’s terms.  

Personal information

When we refer to “personal information,” we mean information relating to a living individual from which that person can or likely could be personally identified. Personal information includes not only an individual’s name or phone number; it may also include other information associated with a specific individual, to the extent that such information would reasonably enable identification of the individual, such as a particular employment history not shared by others.

Our collection of personal information 

When you use the Site, we may collect personal information about you if you register on the Site, register for a webinar, fill out a form, respond to a survey, or interact with other services, features or resources we make available on our Site. In these circumstances, we may solicit from you, as appropriate, your name, your email address, your postal mailing address, your phone number (generally those you use in a professional capacity). We will collect such personal information only if you voluntarily submit it to us. You may always refuse to supply personal information, except that it may prevent you from engaging in certain activities in some limited circumstances, for instance, attending an in-person event where your contact details are required for access to the venue.

Our Site may use “cookies” to enhance your experience.  Cookies are small text files placed on your web browser to ensure the Site runs efficiently, for record-keeping purposes and sometimes to provide information on the Site to EMIA.  You may choose to set your web browser to refuse cookies, or to alert you when cookies are being sent. If you do so, note that some parts of the Site may not function properly. 

How we may use your personal information

EMIA may use the personal information we collect about you to:

 

  • respond to your requests 

    We may use the personal information you provide to respond to your inquiries, including by providing you with information or services that you request. 
     

  • provide automatic registration 

    We automatically register individual asset managers listed on our membership application to our website, so they may access the webinar recordings and our investor portal.

     

  • personalize your experience

    We may use your personal information to inform you of our events that may be of interest and relevance to you. 

     

  • improve our Site and services  

    We may use the personal information you provide, including your feedback about the Site   and/or our services, to address your needs and those of other Site users more efficiently       and effectively. We may use personal information in the aggregate (yours and other Site       users’) to understand how our users as a group use the services and resources provided on our Site.

     

  • maintain a register of the attendees to EMIA-hosted/co-hosted webinars and events

    We may use your personal information to create an event attendee list and/or a name badge for you for an event, or to record your dietary preferences.

     

  • to send periodic emails
    We may use your email address to send you information and updates pertaining to EMIA. 

When we may share your personal information

We may share your personal information with trusted third-party service providers whom we engage to help us operate our business and the Site or administer activities on our behalf, such as sending out newsletters or surveys. We may share your personal information with these third parties for those limited purposes, provided that they have standard terms to use it only for those purposes and to protect its confidentiality and security.

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to others. We may share generic aggregated demographic information (not linked to any personal information) regarding visitors and users with our business partners, trusted affiliates and advertisers for the purposes outlined above (See “How we may use your personal information”).

How we protect your personal information

We maintain appropriate data collection, storage and processing practices and security measures to protect against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure or destruction of the personal information we collect. We also limit access to your personal information to our employees, volunteers, contractors and other third parties who have a business need to know. They will only process your personal information on our instructions and are also required to keep your personal information confidential and secure.

Retaining your personal information

We will only retain your personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfil the purposes we collected it for. If you would like us to delete your personal information from EMIA’s system, please contact EMIA using the details under “Contacting us” below.

Third-party websites

You may find advertising or other content on our Site that links to the sites and services of our partners, suppliers, advertisers, sponsors, licensors and other third parties. We do not control the content or links that appear on these sites and are not responsible for the practices employed by websites linked to or from our Site. In addition, these sites or services, including their content and links, may be constantly changing. These sites and services may have their own privacy policies and customer service policies. Browsing and interaction on any other website, including websites which have a link to our Site, is subject to that website’s own terms and policies.

Changes to this Privacy Notice

EMIA may update this Privacy Notice at any time. When we do, we will post a notification on the main page of our Site. We encourage you to frequently check this page for any changes to stay informed about how we are helping to protect the personal information we collect. You acknowledge and agree that it is your responsibility to review this Privacy Notice periodically and become aware of modifications.
