EMIA’s Carbon Transition Initiative resumed its educational webinars with this joint event with the Labeled Bonds Initiative covering the role of sustainable bonds in financing carbon transition.
EMIA hosted Krista Tukiainen, Head of Market Intelligence, Climate Bonds Projects and Berit Lindholdt-Lauridsen, Senior Operations Officer, Climate Finance and Policy Unit, IFC to discuss the current trends, opportunities and challenges in climate financing and sustainable bonds. They provided a general overview of this rapidly growing and developing segment of sustainable finance with a focus on climate and Emerging Markets.
The speakers highlighted the opportunities offered by the asset class as well as its challenges, including additionality, sustainability quality, reporting and availability of impact data, verification etc. Special attention was paid to new instruments such as sustainability-linked and climate transition bonds. Using relevant examples, the experts suggested what investors should look for and be mindful of when investing in these instruments.
